This Is Not Going To Be Easy
THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE EASY
Where do I see racism?
It is my work to become aware.
How can I open my eyes and heart to what is?
It is my work to become aware of racism’s presence.
Is it only present when someone does or says something “racist”?
It is my work to become aware of how pervasive and insidious racism is.
Has my life benefited from the color of skin I was born with?
It is my work to become aware of the benefit of being born with white skin.
Where are my strengths in the resistance against racism?
It is my work to become aware of my biases and then use my voice.
The information is everywhere – what do I see?
It is my work to engage with other white people to explore these questions.
I need to reframe my reality.
I need to live with – struggle with – my questions.
I need to do my own work – and then work with others.
This is not going to be easy.
